The Prisoner (a poem by me)

Image
The Prisoner I have walked into my prison, A cage with no bars. No holes, The door shuts behind me. My wardens stand before me, They come bearing smiles and food and comfort, It is a trick to keep me here, and yet I have chosen my prison, It is a warm and comforting cage, Where no hands will harm me, no fiends will fight me, I lay the days away, dreaming of what I will do when I I cannot leave my prison, My cries for freedom are unheard, I leave, but the wardens find me, They drag me back to the cage, They laugh and toy with me, Where once I may have been king Now I am only a fool. I am a prisoner, And I surrendered freedom for gluttony.
